BEIJING–Chinese regulators said late Friday that they will be working with e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. to fight counterfeit products sold online, the latest move in a battle that emerged between the regulator and the online giant in recent days.
The State Administration for Industry and Commerce said in a statement late Friday that it met with Alibaba’s executive chairman, Jack Ma, on Friday, resulting in an agreement to tackle fakes and boost consumer protection online.
Alibaba BABA, -0.85% agreed to “actively cooperate” with the SAIC to strengthen investment capital and technology and expand its anticounterfeit measures, the statement said. Alibaba also agreed to routine inspections of products sold on its site, the statement said.
